What is this?

I’ve been interested in game design and creation for years. I’ve made a dozen attempts at creating a video game over the years. Each time I get a little farther in the process before I get bored, feel I could do a lot better if I just started over, or want to spend time on another hobby.

This blog is my journey for the attempt that’s finally going to result in a game that gets completed and published. But that’s not the entire point of this blog. A large part of it is to teach others what I’ve learned about the process of making a game. There are a million hidden pitfalls I can help others avoid.

So what makes this different from the other dozen attempts? How do I know I’m actually going to follow through this time?

  1. I’ve learned enough to know HOW to approach game development and design. You can’t just dive in to programming with a cool idea in your head and expect it to work out.
  2. I know what I want out of this hobby. I’m making this game for ME, not because I’m hoping it’s some ticket to million-dollar Steam sales. (Although that would be pretty nice.)
  3. I’ve learned enough about programming and Unity to not fill a Unity project with complete garbage. My code isn’t going to be crazy optimized, but processing speeds are fast enough that that’s ok for the game I want.
  4. Tied to point 3, I know my limitations. What I’m creating won’t be a AAA game that looks amazing. It’ll be a single B game at best – and that’s ok.
  5. I’m making this journey public, which also makes me accountable.

So, come join me. Learn from my mistakes so you can make games without being a lame quitter, too.
